Paradise Island, The Bahamas, June 25, 2022– His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Cornelius A. Smith, Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas recently presented a Legacy Sponsor Award to Colina on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh (DOE) Cup Semi-Finals Golf Tournament being held in The Bahamas.

Over the years, Colina has consistently supported the tournament which is a fundraiser for the Governor General’s Youth Award (GGYA) programme.

“We are delighted that DOE and Atlantis have paused to recognize our consistent contribution to the tournament these past years,” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director, Corporate Communications, Colina. “Colina has been supporting the Bahamian community for decades, with a focus on health, education and youth development.”

The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the fundraising efforts of GGYA, as with many other organizations.

“We seek to help restore the GGYA financially after two years of not being able to host the fundraiser due to the COVID-19 Pandemic,” said Rosamund Roberts, Secretary, GGYA Board of Trustees.

“We are pleased that corporate Bahamas has united to give GGYA a financial injection, after a two-year hiatus induced by a dreadful pandemic,” said Seymour. “We welcome opportunities to support programmes that positively impact the lives of young people.”

The award was presented during a cocktail reception at Ocean Club Golf Course, Paradise Island, on Saturday, June 25. The DOE Semi-Finals golf tournament was held following day (Sunday, June 26, 2022). A team of four golfers represented Colina at the event. Funds raised from the tournament assist approximately 2,000 GGYA students across the islands of The Bahamas, annually.
