Employees Rock Colorful Socks on World Down Syndrome Day

New Providence, The Bahamas, March 21, 2024 – In a vibrant display of solidarity and support employees at Colina donned an array of brightly coloured and patterned socks, symbolizing the unique differences and vibrant lives of those with Down Syndrome and commemorating World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) themed, “End the Stereotypes.”

Down Syndrome, the most common genetic disorder globally, is characterized by an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. When chromosomes are examined under a microscope, they look like pairs of socks so individuals with Down Syndrome are often described metaphorically as having an extra ‘sock.’

“Embracing diversity and supporting inclusivity are core values here at Colina,” said Maxine Seymour, Director of Corporate Communications at Colina. “This event is just one of the ways we express our commitment to understanding and celebrating the beauty and unique contributions of every individual in our community.”

Individuals with Down Syndrome lead productive and fulfilling lives and contribute to their communities in various significant ways. Through participating in initiatives like ‘Rock Your Socks’, Colina aims to highlight these contributions and foster an environment of acceptance in the workplace and wider community.
