Colina Titles Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre’s 13th Annual Geriatric Push/Walkathon

Nassau, The Bahamas, June 15, 2024 – The 13th Annual PHA Colina Geriatric Pushathon took place on Saturday, June 15. Colina proudly continued its longstanding partnership with Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre as the title sponsor for this year’s event.

The Company’s employees enthusiastically volunteered, assisting elderly residents along the route. The seniors embraced the opportunity to be outdoors, engaging in friendly competition and racing toward the finish line in hopes of earning medals.

“We are duty bound to make our community better,” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director of Corporate Communications at Colina. “Colina is committed to improving the lives of citizens and residents across our nation, with a special fondness for the elderly.”

“Our team members volunteered to participate in the Pushathon for a second consecutive year,” Seymour added. “Their enthusiasm inspires us to continue nurturing a culture of compassion and community support; we had such a wonderful time on Saturday past.”

Governor General Dame Cynthia Alexandria “Mother” Pratt cut the ribbon to officially start the race. Rev. Dr. Carrington S. Pinder and his wife Rev. Sabrina Pinder who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15, served as patrons for the event.

“This year’s race was a great success thanks to Colina’s loyal support,” said Dr. Ashley Adderley, Chairperson, Pushathon 2024. “Proceeds from the event will help defray the cost of replacing our wheelchair transport vehicle; wheelchair buses transport the patients to necessary healthcare appointments.”

“Our annual movie night, bus rides and other initiatives make a substantial difference with improving and up keeping a good quality of life for our patients,” said Adderley.

The Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre’s Geriatric Hospital plays a crucial role for seniors in the community. Events like the Pushathon ‘push’ the importance of seniors living healthy, productive lives through meaningful social interaction, physical activity and proper care.

Themed ‘Seniors Pushing Limits and Surpassing Boundaries’, this year’s Pushathon started at the hospital grounds, traveling north on Fox Hill Road, east on Prince Charles Drive, south on Commonwealth Boulevard through Elizabeth Estates, west on Yamacraw Road and north on Fox Hill Road, ending at Sandilands. It was a morning well spent celebrating the seniors in our community.
