Colina is the Title Sponsor of the 13th Annual Sandilands Geriatric Push/Walkathon

Nassau, The Bahamas, April 15, 2024 – Colina is the title sponsor of the 13th Annual Sandilands Geriatric Push/Walkathon. The Company presented $10,000 to Sandilands ahead of the event, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 15.

“This year, we deepen our commitment even further, not only by stepping up as the title sponsor, but also by contributing $10,000 in cash, along with additional investments that underscore our unwavering dedication to our community’s health and wellness,” said D’Andra Johnson, Legal Counsel, Colina.

The Push/Walkathon is an annual event that brings together participants of all ages, particularly those over 60 years old. Participants have the option to walk, push a wheelchair, or be pushed if wheelchair-bound, making the event inclusive for everyone.

“The PHA Colina Geriatric Pushathon is not just an event; it is a movement that ‘pushes’ the significance of our seniors to the forefront, celebrating their ongoing contributions and the vibrant lives they once led,” said Johnson. “At Colina, we are passionate about supporting these pillars of our community, acknowledging that they are the individuals who have laid down the foundations of our nation.”

“Many were once professionals like doctors, nurses, and other key figures who have shaped the country we know today,” Johnson continued.

Tamara Davis, Deputy Hospital Administrator shed light on the effects of aging on our elderly community and the importance of partnerships like that with Colina.

“While aging is a natural process, we can reduce the risk of developing lifestyle-related illnesses, like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease by adopting healthy practices like moderate physical activities, such as walking or swimming on a daily basis,” said Davis. “For persons who may already be struggling with one of these conditions, regular physical activity helps to control and manage the condition.”

“Each year, the pushathon allows us to raise awareness and promote this important message,” continued Davis. “At Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, we are deeply grateful for the enduring partnerships that have been instrumental in enhancing the facilities and quality of life for our patients.”

“The pushathon is a testament to the power of community spirit, bringing together individuals, patients, and staff to uplift and brighten the lives of our precious pearls and gems,” said Davis.

Pushathon Committee Chair, Dr. Ashley Adderley also shared her excitement for the upcoming event.

“This year, the Sandilands Geriatric Hospital will host its 13th annual pushathon under the theme, Seniors Pushing Limits and Surpassing Boundaries,” said Adderley. “The pushathon serves as a beacon of hope, promoting awareness about healthy aging and empowering wheelchair-bound individuals and others who may struggle with challenged mobility to remain physically active.”

“I would like to acknowledge and publicly thank our sponsors who are partnering with us to make pushathon 2024 a success – our title sponsor, Colina Insurance, we thank you,” said Adderley.

Alana Major, Director of Foundations, Corporate and Community Relations for the Public Hospitals Authority reinforced Dr. Adderley’s appreciation for Colina’s donation and spoke to the Company’s long-standing partnership with Sandilands.

“Colina, thank you very much for $10,000,” said Major. “As a Director of Foundations, I’m always excited to get money, so we are very pleased that your commitment has been long-standing because you have supported Sandlin’s Rehabilitation Centre and the Pushathon for many years.”

“Stepping up as the title sponsor means a great deal to this institution, so thank you once again,” concluded Major.

The pushathon will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the hospital grounds. It promises to be a morning filled with enthusiasm, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to supporting the elderly in our community. Rev. Dr. Carrington Pinder and Rev. Sabrina Pinder will serve as this year’s patrons.

“We are honoured to sponsor this event that celebrates seniors in our community,” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director, Corporate Communications at Colina. “Colina is dedicated to giving back and supporting initiatives that promote the health and well-being of our seniors, so we were happy to contribute to the Sandilands Geriatric Hospital.”
