Insurer Donates to Hands for Hunger

Nassau, The Bahamas, October 16, 2020 – Colina Insurance Limited (Colina) donated to Hands for Hunger in commemoration of World Food Day which is celebrated today, Friday, October 16.

“The economic shut down which began in March propelled the need for food assistance to levels exceeding anything in recent times in The Bahamas,” said Keisha Ellis, Executive Director, Hands for Hunger. “Hands for Hunger responded immediately by increasing the amount of food given to our recipient agencies and also by directly assisting individual families.”

“Hunger is a real challenge that people face, every day, in The Bahamas and around the world,” said Maxine Seymour, Director, Corporate Communications, Colina Insurance Limited. “It is a privilege to partner with an organization that has been providing food assistance to the most vulnerable in our communities for over a decade.”

“This pandemic has truly illuminated the work that is done by Hands for Hunger,” said Seymour. “I encourage individuals and corporate entities to partner with this distinguished non-profit and help meet the needs of families in our community not just on World Food Day but year round.”

Hands for Hunger is currently running an Each One Feed One campaign. An anonymous philanthropic donor has agreed to match all donations made to the campaign so Colina’s donation will provide a week’s supply of food for 140 families.

“The theme of this year’s World Food Day is Grow, nourish, sustain. Together,” said DeAndrea Lewis, Vice President, Life Operations, Colina Insurance Limited. “Colina is very happy that we are able to do our part to help the community by making this donation to Hands for Hunger and we are sure that they will do their part to ensure that it gets to those who are most in need.”

The donation was presented at the Hands for Hunger facility at New Providence Community Center on Blake Road. Health protocols were enforced with all individuals sanitizing their hands, wearing protective masks and physically distancing.

Colina recently donated to The Bahamas Red Cross’ Meals on Wheels programme in Grand Bahama. A donation to Reach Out Youth Organization’s feeding programme in Grand Bahama is also pending.
