Colina Commemorates Autism Awareness Month

Insurer Donates $10K to R.E.A.C.H. and Showcases Blue Light Displays

Nassau, The Bahamas, April 1, 2022 – Autism Awareness month starts today with Colina Insurance Limited (Colina) donating $10K to The Bahamas Resource and Educational Source for Autism and other related Challenges (R.E.A.C.H.).

“Colina is committed to promoting health and wellness in our communities through partnerships with civic organizations like R.E.A.C.H.,” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director, Corporate Communications, Colina. “Our employees are likewise minded and were eager to join the cause by purchasing t-shirts to wear throughout the month.”

“Last year, we lit the building at 308 East Bay Street with blue LED lights. This year we have added our 21 Collins Avenue location to increase awareness,” said Seymour.

Colina has a long standing partnership with R.E.A.C.H. and is dedicated to raising autism awareness.

“This year we were really fortunate to get a speech therapist on our staff and she has been able to see between thirty to forty kids for free,” said Dwayne Gibson, Chairman, Board of Directors, R.E.A.C.H. “The donation from Colina empowers us to do that.”

Autism is a complex disability that affects many individuals and families in The Bahamas.

“R.E.A.C.H. has been a fabulous addition to our life and family structure,” said Marcus Bosland, Resident Actuary, Colina. “The organization has taught us how to be better parents and has given us some of the tools and techniques needed to support our child, [along with] a sense of fellowship and community.”

R.E.A.C.H. Bahamas has a wide variety of social activities throughout the year to increase the level of awareness of autism in the country.

The cheque presentation took place on the front lawn of Colina’s corporate office at 308 East Bay Street.  “Au-some” kids and their families were in attendance in addition to Colina employees and R.E.A.CH. team members.
