The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association Receives $10,000 Donation

Nassau, The Bahamas – Colina Insurance Limited (Colina) continues its commitment to supporting health and wellness in The Bahamas with a $10K donation to The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association (BSCA), during Sickle Cell Awareness Month, in September, to help fund critical initiatives such as free sickle cell screening for children and adults, as well as financial aid for individuals living with sickle cell disease, also known as ‘warriors.’

“We are proud to partner with The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association, to foster healthier communities, and this donation will play a vital role in helping BSCA continue its impactful work” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director of Corporate Communications at Colina. “We stand by their efforts to improve the lives of Bahamians affected by sickle cell disease, especially during Sickle Cell Awareness Month,” expressed Seymour.

BSCA heightens efforts during the month to raise awareness and expand its community-based services include pain management education and support groups for those affected by the disease.

“The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association is grateful for Colina’s donation,” said Kristin Beneby, President, BSCA. “Through this donation, we can accomplish our goals and continue working towards bringing our initiatives to life, especially providing free sickle cell screening to children of tender years and members of the public for a sickle-free Bahamas and financially supporting our warriors.”

BSCA’s initiatives, including public education campaigns, free screenings, and financial support for families affected by sickle cell disease, are essential in ensuring that Bahamians have the resources and knowledge they need to manage the disease effectively. With Colina’s donation, these programs will be expanded, helping more individuals and their caregivers access vital services.
