Colina Employee Places 1st Runner Up In BIA’s Motto Competition

Nassau, The Bahamas, October 4, 2024 – The Bahamas Insurance Association (BIA) commemorated its 50th anniversary with a motto competition, inviting submissions to represent the future of the insurance industry. Actuarial Trainee at Colina Insurance Limited (Colina), Zavier Joseph-Smith, was awarded 1st runner-up out of 64 entrees for his inspiring motto, “Insuring Today, Ensuring Tomorrow.”

Zavier, who said that he always liked quick challenges saw the competition as a way to test his creative abilities. When asked about the inspiration behind his top-scoring motto, Zavier mentioned that it seemed obvious. “Insurance products serve as a hedge against an uncertain future to provide peace of mind,” Zavier explained. “Ensuring that peace embodies the essence of what we do.”

The competition highlighted the essential role of insurance in national development, aiming to boost public awareness and appreciation for the industry’s contributions to Bahamian society.

“We strive to raise public awareness of the significant contributions this industry makes to national progress,” the BIA stated. “For half a century, the BIA has been advocating for the best interests of the insurance industry, representing these interests to the Bahamian Government and People, as well as to other local and international bodies.”

“We are incredibly proud of Zavier’s accomplishment, which is a testament to the dedication and talent we nurture at Colina,” said Maxine V. Seymour, Director of Corporate Communications. “The insurance industry impacts our nation daily and Zavier’s commitment to shaping a brighter future for The Bahamas is commendable.”
