Colina Assists 35 Students with Virtual Schooling

Insurer Partners on Connectivity for All Campaign

Nassau, The Bahamas, December 11, 2020 – Colina Insurance Limited (Colina) provided 35 students with access to virtual schooling as part of the Connectivity for All campaign. The campaign has been organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Cable Bahamas Group and Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas’.

“Education is everybody’s business and everybody has to appreciate the intrinsic value of education,” said Hon. Jeffrey Lloyd, Minister of Education.

The Connectivity For All campaign aims to bridge the digital divide by providing public-school students in need with high speed internet access and devices.

“Children are our nation’s most irreplaceable resource and Colina is thrilled to assist in equipping them with these preparation tools as they get ready to steer the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to unimaginable achievements in the coming years,” said Maxine Seymour, Director, Corporate Communications, Colina Insurance Limited.

“There is no exclusivity or electivity in connectivity. None. Tomorrow needed Colina to step forward today so we proudly take that step,” said Seymour.

“I would like to say thank you to Colina for their donation as well as The Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas and to all of the corporate citizens and individuals who have partnered with us in hopes of making our common dream of a more equitable, digitally inclusive Bahamas a reality,” said Franklyn Butler, CEO, Cable Bahamas Group.

While every child deserves a quality education, there are many families falling through the gap according to Campaign organizers whose goal is to raise $150,000 by December 31, 2020. All donations go towards the provision of high-speed internet and devices to 500 students who need essential access to virtual school.

“It is imperative that we address the digital divide – which we know translates to other social inequities – at this crucial point in our nation’s history,” said Carla D. Card-Stubbs, Assistant Governor, Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas. “We invite all well-thinking citizens and residents of The Bahamas to partner with us.”

The donation was presented during a press conference at the Ministry of Education with health protocols enforced.
